Northwoods Progressive is a two-person local reporting project. We do not run an ad network, a mailing list, or an analytics platform. This page describes everything we collect, which is close to nothing.
This site is static. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no third-party trackers, and loads no external fonts or scripts. We do not build profiles of visitors.
Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard server request logs (IP address, user agent, page requested) to serve the site and defend it from abuse. We do not use those logs to identify individuals, and we do not combine them with anything else.
If you write to us, we keep your message so we can act on it. We do not sell or share it. If you send a tip and ask to remain anonymous, we honour that; please say so in the first message. Email is not a secure channel and we cannot promise it is confidential in transit — if that matters for what you are sending, ask us for a better route before sending it.
We publish with an open-source command-line tool we wrote, called np‑yt. It runs on our own computer and is not a service other people can sign in to. It authenticates to Google in order to manage our own YouTube channel — uploading our videos, setting their titles, descriptions, captions and playlists.
Its Google credentials are stored only on our machine. The tool reads no personal data, collects nothing from viewers, and sends nothing to anyone but YouTube. If you are here because Google asked you to review this app before granting access: it requests permission to manage a YouTube channel, and the only channel it manages is ours.
Our videos are hosted on YouTube, and watching them there puts you under Google’s terms, not ours. We have no control over what YouTube collects and no access to information about individual viewers beyond the aggregate statistics YouTube shows every channel.
We report on the conduct of public officials acting in their public roles, and on documents that are already public records. If you believe we have published something about you that is inaccurate, write to us and we will correct it promptly and visibly. Corrections run in the video and pinned at the top, not quietly in a description.
